Llyr Ambrosi Varyan is from Latin Island, a small clump of land orbiting The Spark. As a youth, Llyr was involved in the revolution, when the people of his island rose against the organized crime lords ruling them.

After liberating the island, the revolutionists transformed into gangsters, dividing the island into territories and eventually engaging in gangland warfare. Llyr was involved in this for a time, but was able to escape that life thanks to the mentorship of his teacher, Tomomi. Llyr and his sister Harley learned from Tomomi and became renowned martial artists.

Eventually, Varyan turned his talents towards bounty hunting, making a name for himself in the field until getting noticed by Senator Biggsby, who hired him as his private security detail.
